A Happy End to the January Shutdown Looks Forward to a Full Return

After more than three weeks of closure, RES Success is reopening again… partly.

In January, RES suspended all in-person programs across the agency as the omicron variant caused COVID-19 numbers to spike at unprecedented levels in Contra Costa County. During the time away, RES professionally cleaned and sanitized each facility. And on Monday, a few programs began offering in-person services again.

“Safety is our priority. We will always make sure safety comes first,” said Ian Bremner, executive director and founder of RES Success.

Even though some program participants returned this week, RES is still providing most services in other formats. Virtual meetings, online classes, small group gatherings, and other creative solutions are filling in the gap left by reduced in-person hours and limits on attendance.

“Remote alternatives have allowed us to expand our services and reach our community at this time when we couldn’t meet together in person,” says Nicole Doubley, program director at RES. “They’ve allowed us to continue to provide these very necessary services and stay in touch with the people we support.”

She adds, “We want everyone back as soon as possible. But we want to do it safely. There is a transition process for us and for the people that we serve.”

The return to full in-person services at RES will be slow and careful, but even a small step forward is worth celebrating.
