About Our Programs

Each of our programs creates a welcoming, encouraging environment where the people we support can grow in independence, develop critical skills, and pursue the goals and interests that matter most to them.

As a person-centered agency, the details of our programs change from location to location and from year to year, as we meet the people we support where they are and pursue their interests. However, each of our programs always share the following:

Every person
is different.

We believe that all our services should center around the individual and what matters most to them. We work with each person, their families, and their support network to develop an individual service plan that addresses key areas of development, including:

  • Education

  • Community Integration

  • Social Skills

  • Expressive Arts

  • Healthy Living Skills

  • Volunteer and Employment Skills

  • Cognitive Behavioral Self-Management

Every person belongs.

We believe that every person should be able to be part of their community in the way that they choose. We work to make sure each individual has ample opportunities to make the connections that they desire, including:

  • Participating socially within the programs through games, activities, and celebrations.

  • Participating in their communities as volunteers, customers, and neighbors.

  • Exploring nature, art, history, health, science, and other subjects of interest in our area.

SITE-BASED PROGRAMS

Site-based programs start and end at one of the five locations below. During the day, programs hold activities in the building and on our property, but they also take trips into the surrounding community on foot, by public transportation, or in our own vehicles.

Located in the heart of Downtown Martinez, light pours into the program’s open floor plan, creating an ideal environment for those who desire an abundance of space. The dynamic downtown district provides participants with ample opportunities to become active members of the community. Participants enjoy the downtown festivities, the waterfront marina, bocce ball, library, local parks, sports complex, and Rankin Park swimming pool. Programming is highly individualized, emphasizing visual schedules, kinesthetic activity, daily living skills, and communication support.

Located in Downtown Martinez, the intimate environment at Las Juntas is an excellent environment for those who prefer a quieter atmosphere. Similar to our Ferry Street location, Las Juntas participants are active community members in the local and surrounding areas, utilizing bus and train stations to access recreational destinations. Programming emphasizes social skills curriculum, team building, and group academics.

Our newest facility in Pleasant Hill is just off Monument Boulevard and across the highway from the Downtown Pleasant Hill shopping area. The program provides a full computer learning lab, gardening opportunities, music room, art studio, social skills lessons, and interpersonal services.

Just minutes from the revitalized downtown district, our Pittsburg facility utilizes solar technology for its energy use as well as sustainable materials throughout. As the largest of all RES locations, it offers a quiet computer learning lab, a fruit and vegetable garden maintained by participants, Zen meditation garden, art program utilizing recycled materials, music headquarters, and curriculum-based academic and social skills classes. Vocational volunteer opportunities include landscaping, mini recycling center, and community based job sites to support community integration and future employment.

Situated in the quaint town of Hercules, with beautiful views of the city, this modern industrial facility operates as a vocational training program, assisting participants in becoming successful employees in their field of choice. The program houses a computer learning center and a fully equipped artistic workshop for creating up-cycled products out of reuse materials. Program vehicles provide opportunities for participants to access the community for employment, volunteer jobs, and to transport their self-made products to the RES Artisan’s Booth for sale and entrepreneurship opportunities.

COMMUNITY-BASED PROGRAMS

Community-based programs meet in public spaces and take advantage of resources and places of interest in our neighborhood and area, using public transportation and our own vehicles.

The Community Based Program in Pleasant Hill meets on the vibrant campus of Diablo Valley College (DVC). In an active and dynamic educational setting, participants partake in college courses with the support of RES Instructors. The diverse DVC campus provides a safe community for participants to gain independence and enhance their educational skills and career goals. In between classes, local community parks are utilized for social and educational clubs, recreational activities are widespread via public transportation and RES commuter vehicles, and community volunteer jobs provide experience for future employment.

The Community Based Tri-Valley Program meets at the Danville Library, and offers similar structural services to the DVC location: education, recreation, and volunteerism. The surrounding community provides vast opportunities for educational and recreational field trips, including local museums, Lesher Center for the Arts, San Leandro Marina, Bollinger Canyon, or taking BART to the Civic Center in Oakland or downtown Berkeley. Participants network with local businesses for volunteer opportunities, including Crow Canyon Gardens, Sunflower Hill, Ace Hardware, and Danville Hospice Thrift Shop. Socialization, building positive relationships, and developing a connection with community are cornerstones of program services.
