The Pittsburg Renewal Project
The Pittsburg Renewal Project is our effort to repair and restore the physical building and surrounding property for our Pittsburg program.
This will allow us to keep providing a space that is:
welcoming and attractive
clean and safe
comfortable and encouraging
for the people we support at this location and the staff who work so hard on their behalf.

BACKGROUND
RES Success started the Pittsburg program in 2009 on Railroad Avenue to serve adults with IDD in Pittsburg, Antioch, and the surrounding communities. This is the largest day program at RES, supporting up to 60 adults.
After 14 years of service, our building and property need some care and repair in order to keep providing a safe, welcoming environment for the next 14 years.
Additionally, when our building was empty during the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic, our property was targeted for loitering, vandalism, and dumping. Over the last two years, we have worked hard to improve the security at our property and end the destructive trespassing.
And it worked!
Now we’re ready to heal the damage done by vandalism, by time, and by good old wear and tear.

PHASE ONE — COMPLETED
The beginning of our project was to repair and replace the woodwork around our building that was worn and damaged.
On the front, we replaced wood railings damaged by vandalism over the last few years.
On the upper floor, we replaced the railing around the front deck and strengthened the railing around the rear deck so that they will continue to provide a safe outdoor space for years to come.
All around the building, we identified and replaced wood that was damaged by sun or water.
This makes our building safe and solid and ready for Phase Two!
PHASE TWO — COMPLETED
The next step was to repaint our building along with the wall around our parking lot and the garbage enclosure.
This seals the building — including the newly built wooden areas — and protects against the sun and weather, preventing rotting, warping, and cracking.
It also beautifies our building and gives us a clean welcoming face to present to our community, our visitors, and the people who come to our program every day.
This keeps our building healthy over time and makes it a welcoming and encouraging environment for our day program!
PHASE FOUR
The last phase will be to patch and repave the parking lot after heavy use by large vehicles. This will improve the drop-off and pick-up experience for everyone. It will also improve the space where we have so much outdoor recreation, quick walks, and holiday events.
PHASE THREE
The next phase of our project will be replacing the well-worn flooring upstairs and making small repairs and adjustments to flooring throughout the building. This will keep the program easy to clean and help create a more inviting space for people to spend their day.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
You can make a big difference by helping us meet the costs of the first phase of this project.
We are part of a community of people who care about adults with IDD, and who share our belief that everyone deserves an environment that is welcoming and encouraging. We have received more than $15,000 in grants and donations to begin this work.
Will you join us in this project?
Every contribution will help us renew our program and make a difference for the people we support.
Your help will equip our Pittsburg program to continue the RES Success mission:
provide quality day programs for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities
help the people we serve grow in dignity and independence
support each individual as they pursue the goals and dreams that matter most to them

LATEST UPDATES
July 30, 2024 — Work began on the Pittsburg building earlier this month. The rear deck was fortified and secured on the first day. However, it was determined that our deck railings and fencing in the front had to be completely replaced. And that’s what they did!
Now the woodwork that was destroyed by vandalism and the elements have been completely replaced and the front deck is back in operation!
These improvements were made possible by help from the Keller Canyon Mitigation Fund, Heritage Bank of Commerce, and the many individual donors in our community who supported this project.
Below you can see before and after pictures of 1) the fence damaged by water; 2) the upper railings with strengthened posts; 3) the rebuilt railings around the lower patio; 4) the replaced gate that people use for nearby community trips; 5) the front of the Pittsburg program with a new face.
August 15, 2024 — As soon as the wood replacement was finished, the painting began! The painting covered both the new construction and the rest of the property too.
Now the entire building is sealed and secured with fresh paint. This will help protect it for years to come and make it attractive and welcoming for everyone who comes to our day program.
In addition, we’ve repainted the wall around the parking lot and the garbage enclosure, so that the entire area looks like new!
