Pittsburg Shines Bright at Night
This winter we made some big improvements at our RES Success location in Pittsburg.
During the pandemic, homelessness in Contra Costa County increased by nearly 35 percent. In Pittsburg last year, we had a difficult time with transient people loitering and camping on the property after hours. This led to littering, vandalism, property damage, and multiple break-in attempts — wasting our staff’s time on cleanup and our resources on repairs.
With help from the Keller Canyon Mitigation Fund, we were able to add and replace high-efficiency lighting all around the building and parking area this winter. The new illumination discourages vandalism and loitering after hours and helps keep our staff and facilities safe.
The Keller Canyon Mitigation Fund also helped us install a security cage around the backflow preventer (part of our fire sprinkler system) to prevent tampering and vandalism — and the expensive repairs that follow.
In addition to this, we’ve recently set up a new security alarm and camera system around the building that allows us to monitor the property after hours and call for help when needed. It even notifies trespassers when they are on camera.
After making these improvements, we are happy to report that loitering and littering have been almost completely eliminated over the last few months! By discouraging nighttime trespassing, our property is safer and we’re doing our part to make our neighborhood safer too.
We are excited to be starting the year with a building that is bright and safe at night — and clean and welcoming every morning!
